The first two are Spanish-built pirate/privateer half-galleys, one for certain, the other almost certain. Additionally, there is an illustration of two others that is almost certainly based on eyewitness descriptions taken firsthand by the illustrator. In other words, they are illustrations of real buccaneer or pirate vessels made by illustrators and painters who actually saw them or were provided a high degree of detail by eyewitnesses. Nonetheless, there exist eyewitness illustrations of at least five Golden Age sea roving vessels we can for the most part put names, captains, and adventures to. But conjectural they are, even if they are the best we might ever do. At best they are intelligently conjectural. Modern scholarly reconstructions in the form of illustration or model - Whydah, Queen Anne’s Revenge, &c - are based on limited eyewitness accounts and scarce records of the actual ships, with reference to hopefully similar ships found in period maritime paintings, drawings, and construction records. There were no professional artists such as the Willem van de Velde father and son, or Pierre Puget, or any of a number of maritime painters of the era to paint the Caribbean and its people, landscapes, and vessels. These artists never saw the vessels they drew, probably had little if any input from eyewitnesses who had seen them, and were often clearly inept when it came to accurate representation (Hollywood also has always often had this problem and still does).Įven when the illustrator had a good description, the result often hit far from the mark, as we’ll see below. Most period images of buccaneer and pirate ships, not mention of pirate prey and pirate hunters, were drawn not by eyewitnesses in the Caribbean or in other places pirates roved but in England and Europe by the professional illustrators of various editions of books on buccaneers and pirates. In fact, there are few eyewitness images of actual buccaneer and pirate ships of this era - perhaps no more than five! Modern histories of so-called Golden Age pirates - those circa 1655 to 1730 - are often filled with images of pirate ships, many of which are implied to be accurate representations.

Both the individual and corporate income tax, as well as the estate tax, are progressive: Higher-income households pay a higher percentage of their income for these taxes than low- and middle-income earners. The current federal tax system includes an income tax on individuals and corporations a payroll tax on wages and salaries that funds Social Security and part of Medicare an estate tax that, in 2013, only affected the wealthiest 0.18 percent of estates and a set of federal excise taxes targeting specific purposes or products, including the sale of cigarettes, gas, and alcohol. economy and the federal budget over the long term. Combined, these issues will present increasing challenges for the U.S. Anti-tax slogans and too-good-to-be-true proposals to replace the current tax system are a smoke screen to avoid the reality the United States faces today: rapid income growth and profits at the top end of the income scale, as well as an aging population. America’s current tax code is out of step with the times-but not necessarily in the way that some politicians want voters to believe. As you rise up the ranks you will find the battles get more difficult. Various modifications are bought with silver earned in playing or if you take the suckers route, your wallet again. The sad thing is there is no guide on the tanks that tells the real story about the viability of the machine in battle. A minimum of $200 is needed to buy a tank worthy of competing and when you get it, it is a stripped down model that begs for more cash to bring it up to it's touted specs. Even when you open your wallet and buy gold and silver to purchase a better vehicle, you will feel the algorithms kick in sensing your bank level and all of the sudden the market gets very expensive. The overall structure here is the same, though. Though it does mean that the classic's pleasures are now easier to enjoy than ever, made more approachable for a modern audience. That faithfulness means that System Shock (2023) doesn't quite stand up next to the many great games that System Shock (1994) inspired. Developer Nightdive's updated System Shock is a very faithful remake - sometimes shockingly so - recreating much of the Citadel's zig-zagging layout as it was three decades ago, but the original's somewhat intimidating quirks have been ironed out, replaced, or straight-up removed. I'm focusing on the introduction because I think it's emblematic of the entire remake. The remake blunts some of that energy in exchange for something more palatable. The retro animation was kind of surreal, almost like it was straight out of a fever dream. The opening cutscene to the original System Shock has this noisy, head-bopping beat playing in the background. Exactly the same events take place, but they've been rejigged. The System Shock remake begins in much the same way as 1994's original game. Months pass by and you've woken up, still on the Citadel, but this time the humans have turned into bloodthirsty mutants, killer robots and cyborgs attack with a vengeance, and my beloved SHODAN runs the whole bleak party. You get back your freedom plus a cool cybernetic implant, and the megacorp executive who's in charge of the operation gets to do evil things with the new ethically unconstrained station. As a captured hacker onboard the Citadel space station, you've been asked to remove the "ethical constraints" from the station's artificial intelligence (that's SHODAN) in an obviously shady exchange. A remake that closely follows the original classic, with a slightly different overall effect.Īs a newcomer to System Shock, I'd like to take a moment and declare my undying love for SHODAN, aka Sentient Hyper-Optimised Data Access Network, aka the murderous AI villain who engulfs the entire remake. You can really get in there deep and customize your character just the way you want. Diablo II: Lord of Destruction also gives you lots of new enemies and skills. Getting two new classes to play as was awesome and I actually played through the whole act as both classes. The first thing that is worth noting is that Diablo II: Lord of Destruction is the game that introduced, The Assassin and The Druid class to the world of Diablo. While the story is great, an expansion really is only as good as the extra content that it is bringing to the dance. I thought the story was awesome and actually, they could have maybe even made a full-on game about this concept. However, things are not good as the brother of Diablo, Baal is causing havoc and you need to head to the lands of the Barbarians, destroy the World Stone and save the day. You may wonder how you carry on after what happened with Diablo at the end of the main game. The story of Diablo II: Lord of Destruction is awesome and actually way deeper and more interesting than you may expect from an expansion. sharing it between five people is fairly generous! Something to be thankful for as other subscription services like Netflix continue to hike up their prices. It allows up to eight people to share a single subscription which costs £31.49 / $34.99 / AU$54.95 per year (or £59.99 / $79.99 / AU$109.95 if you opt to include the Expansion Pack).Ĭomparatively speaking, the value of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate far outweighs that of a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, and while it may not be open to eight members. Nintendo already offers a similar family plan with its Nintendo Switch Online service. With the six additioanl countries being added we can assume the pilot's going well and that we'll see the plan make its way to all regions soon enough. Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family began life as a pilot initially, and is now ramping up to a fully-fledged rollout. Xbox commits to decade of Call of Duty on Nintendo Switch – but who is it even for? All in the Family If it ends up coming to the US it’s safe to assume It’ll make its way over to the UK too. It’s worth noting that Twitter user (with an image provided to them by Resetera user Sullivan) noticed the plan being advertised on the US Xbox app on PC last month. Based on the Xbox Game Pass Friend & Family plan's current prices, it’s likely to be roughly around £20 / $25 / AU$35 per month if it arrives in these regions. Microsoft announced the new rollout in an Xbox Wire blog post, but didn't mention when we might see the option make its way to the UK, USA, Australia and other countries. The plan allows up to five players across Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC to share an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, essentially splitting the cost five ways.įor example, in Ireland, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate costs €12.99 a month, meanwhile, a month of Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family is €21.99, which ends up at about €4.39 each when split between five people. Xbox owners in Chile, Hungary, Israel, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sweden join Ireland and Colombia in being able to access the Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family Plan. Six more countries have been granted access to the Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family plan, which offers a substantial discount on the service. Serving on the board the last four years I’ve taken the opportunity to take several classes provided by The Iowa School Board Association to better understand budgets, school board policies, and how a successful board operates. I’ve spent numerous hours on projects where it’s my responsibility to listen to the needs and concerns of others, discern what’s right, and create positive change- all while maintaining a strict budget. I have a background in both finance and account management. What background or skill set do you have that makes you qualified to be on the school board? The Madrid School District has a strong educational foundation however, we still have opportunity for growth and if given the opportunity again I will work diligently for our community and school district. I feel a responsibility to help ensure every student, regardless of their abilities or background, is given an equal opportunity to thrive in our school system and become academically successful. I have a passion for giving back and working to make the community the best that it can be and that starts with our children. We did all this while maintaining a balanced budget. Increased technology in the classroom and I was a part of bringing in new administrative staff in both buildings. We updated our building and athletic facilities, hired more associates to help our teachers and meet our students' needs. We’ve updated our reading, math, and writing curriculum. The last four years I’ve had the opportunity to be a part of making decisions that impact our school district in a positive way. Why are you seeking re-election to the school board? There are three running for two positions in this election cycle. The upcoming local election is only a few days away on November 2, but before voters head to the booth, the Madrid Register-News reached out to the Madrid School Board candidates. The following day, Forum user Endorphine posted a thread recounting a myth surrounding the ambient sounds added to caves in Alpha v1.0.3, in which "a pair of white pixels" would appear whenever these sounds would play. This story is the first known instance of the concept of a creepypasta regarding a white-eyed paranormal being in Minecraft. One supposed instance of these eyes was linked in the comment, being a YouTube upload of "13" posted the previous day (the same day that the disc was added to the game), where a screenshot of a dark cave with two white eyes can be seen. On July 31, 2010, Minecraft Forum user Flaky posted a comment, supposedly copied from a post on 4chan's /v/ board, containing a story of a player encountering an entity with glowing white eyes after listening to the "13" music disc. For more detailed information regarding the Brocraft events, see the Minecraft Wiki's interview with Copeland and his recounting of the events. Zoomed-in excerpt of Herobrine in the original image. The original screenshot which inspired the "White Eyes" story, from July 30, 2010, with an enhanced excerpt below. Any appearances of Herobrine are caused by either mods being installed or because of another player using the skin. It is not possible for Herobrine to have ever existed in any unmodded clients or servers. There are no references to him at all in the source code, and there is no code to allow for any entity to act like Herobrine. Herobrine is not in vanilla Minecraft, and never has been. |
